District News

The Horseheads Lioness Club will be celebrating their 40th anniversary on June 14th. The event will take place at the Horseheads Holiday Inn. Since this is Flag Day the theme will be patriotism. All attending must dress with this theme in mind. The cost is only $12. Call Lioness Gail Lampman at 739-5397. Reservations must be in by June 9th.

 

Board Action

King Lion Donna has ordered 300 chicken halves from Wegmans for the Antique Car Show Barbecue. Lion Lance Muir has applied for a Health Department permit for the event. Lion Gary Bernhardt reported five Lions donated 40 hours at Camp Badger on May 13th. Lions participating were Lions Herb Cox, Gary Bernhardt, Al Draht, Lance Muir, and Don Williams.

Journey for sight was done on May 22nd with Lions Sue Brinthaupt, MaryAnn Balland, Gary Bernhardt, Mike Yanak, Steve Connors, and King Lion Donna. $339 has been received to date with more pledges coming. Nine Lions contributed 25 hours of service through our Adopt-A-Highway effort. Thanks go to Lions Dick Wardell, Gary Bernhardt, Al Redner, Lance Muir, Don Williams, Don Roe, Harry King, Bim VanEtten, and Gene Herber. Thank notes were received from the Big Flats Library and the Southern Tier Association for the Visually Impaired. $205 was donated to the library in the form of audiotapes and large print books. $300 was donated to the fund drive for the Visually Impaired organization. The Southern Tier Association for the Visually Impaired will be celebrating their 70th anniversary of community service on August 11th. Club members in non-Lion activities performed 253 hours of community service.

 

Club News

Congratulations to our King Lion Donna Barto for receiving the PDG Memorial Award at the District Governors Testimonial & Awards Banquet. The Senior Nutrition Site opened May 10th at the Big Flats Presbyterian Church. Lion drivers were available for food transportation. Four Club Lions attended the New York State Lions Convention to help vote in ID Ed Cordes for 2nd Vice President of Lions International for the year 2002. Happy birthday to Lions Rita Dery, June 11th, and Gene Herber, June 17th.
