Club News:

The new Big Flats sign should be going up by the end of October / early November. It features the name of our town on a Scotch Light surface for easy viewing, and space for organization emblems such as our own. Many thanks to Al Draht and Bim VanEtten of the Sign Committee, and to all those who helped in clearing the site.

King Lion's Goals for 2000 - 2001

Members & Money M & M

Id like to see the clubs active membership grow by one during the year.

I hope that is as simple as finding one new member because I do not want to lose any members but that could happen. Lets strive for several new members and if we grow by more than one it will be great.

For the past several years our Community Service spending has exceeded our fund raising. Most of our funds come from only two large fundraisers: the 50/50 raffle and the chicken barbecue at the Antique Car show in June. While mint sales, eyeglass recycling and journey for sight are important, they do not contribute that much to our treasury. Money from the Chicken Barbecue is very dependent on having good weather that one day and good weather is never a sure thing in this area. I am asking the fund raising committee to find one more fundraiser or a way to get more money out of what we now do.

Board Action:

The finalized budget was approved at the July meeting, and our Club information has been submitted for the Peace Poster. Lion Donna has created a new club brochure that will be distributed at the general meeting on the 11th.

District News:

The Empire State Speech and Hearing Clinic has moved. The new address is: Lions Camp Badger / Empire State Speech and Hearing Clinic / 725 LaRue Road / Spencer, NY 14883 / Phone # 607-589-4800 / 800-232-7060

The Fall Conference has been scheduled for November 10-11, 2000 at the Holiday Inn in Gang Mills N. Y.

The overall Chairperson will be Immediate Past President Louise Kosty of the Painted Post Lions Club. She will be setting up committees for the various functions that will be happening that weekend. Example-the Friday night talent show, which is chaired by Lion Kathy Spear.

If anyone wants to help with any of the activities, please contact Lion Louise Kosty at 607-936-6905, or Lion Kathy Spear of the Campbell Lions Club if you are interested in the talent show part of the weekend at 607-527-8798.

Web Happenings:

Some interest has been expressed in affiliating our web page with, and Lion John Farr is looking into the details. is a "portal" to 150 online merchants such as Amazon, Lands'End, FTD, Staples, LLBean, Hickory Farms, etc. They have a display ad on page 23 of the July/August edition of The Lion. By registering with LionsMall our Club stands to receive royalty payments as a percentage of each sale that originates from our web site. LionsMall also facilitates other transactions such as online donations to our club. It seems like an easy and attractive way to augment the second "M" in King Lion's goals for this year, and they also have a "Volunteer Recruitment" service that may help with the first. Details will follow as they become available.
