Club News:

This year's Christmas dinner meeting was a great success. Linda Peters provided us with wonderful and interactive keyboard entertainment, and Lion Lance Muir regaled us once again with a Chinese Auction that netted $42 for the Administrative Fund. Lion Marshall Updike conducted the fifth drawing of the Community Service 50/50 raffle (see Winners section), and "Happy Dollars" were redeemed by the Tail Twister, Lion Lance Muir, in addition to the usual levies. Lion Norval Johnston announced that Kent Goben, Director of the Chemung County Nutrition Sites, had invited drivers and their spouses to the Big Flats Nutrition Site for lunch on December 13th. The Nutrition Site is an ongoing activity for several of our Lions, who contributed 20 hours in December alone.

Board Action:

The next Zone Meeting will be held on January 10th at 6:15 PM at the Elmira Lions, Holiday Inn. Reservations need to go to Nancy Zito by January 5th. We received a Thank You letter from Patricia Johnston, Coordinator for the Big Flats Community Food Pantry, for Lions effort in supporting the Pantry during Scouting for Food and Christmas Bell Ringing. Lion Norval Johnston reported that he had tried to return the $10 check to Rev. Rick Price for use of the portable sign and he had refused to accept it. He insisted that it be added to our Community Service Fund, and this has been done. Lion Pat Johnston reported that the Lions Club had raised $693.25 ringing the bell for the Big Flats Community Food Pantry on December 16th and 17th. Twenty-three Lions donated 46 hours. Lion Bim VanEtten made motion that the Club donate $25 to the Chemung County SPCA in memory of prior Lion Skip Brown. Lion John Hoos seconded, and the motion carried.

District News:

Other Campbell products are Franco American, Prego, V8-juices, and others. Also PDG Kretch is still collecting pull-tabs from beverage cans. Lansing Lions Club provided 3,100 pull-tabs and 684 Campbell’s product labels this year. There will be a dinner reception for Lion Dr. Tae Sup Lee, PID, and Candidate for International 2nd Vice President on February 8th, 2001, at 7PM. As a reminder, our Club collects used printer ink cartridges for recycling as a fundraiser. There are some constraints on the type of printer cartridges we can use, and Lion Don Williams will explain this at the next meeting. Also please be reminded that second half dues are due.
