Club News:

Many thanks to our speakers in February. James Sleeth, Director of the Steele Memorial Library, gave us an overview of library history, announced their website at www.Steele.lib.ny.us, and distributed library cards that we can activate. Judy Celelli and Sylvie Farr of Tri County Housing Council told us about the services provided by the agency, and settled some long-standing coffee-house disputes regarding the structure atop their new building -- it's a "light well".

Lion Gene Herber reported that eight Lions helped with the 5K Valentine Run that was held in Big Flats on February 11th. Lions contributed 196 hours to other organizations in February, including 50 hours to the Big Flats Community Food Pantry, and 50 hours to the Steele Memorial Library. Lion Gary Bernhardt circulated a "Wish List" of items required by Lions Camp Badger. ZC Mike Eisenhart was in attendance at the second meeting and announced the upcoming Zone Meeting on March 27th. King Lion Bill presented a 10-year Service Chevron to Lion Charles Easterbrook and a 15-year Service Chevron to Lion Norval Johnston. Congratulations Lions!

Board Action:

Fundraising Chairman Lion Don Williams reported that Rest Stop Coffee Breaks were set for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends at Kanona Rest Area on Interstate 86. School Reunion Chicken BBQ in August was still being pursued at this time. King Lion Bill Powell appointed the following Lions to the Nominating Committee: Donna Barto (chair), Mike Yanak, John Hoos, Marshall Updike, and Mary Ann Balland. A letter was received from DG Jim Killam requesting candidates for Lions Leadership Seminar.

District News:

For all Lions, Lionesses, Leo’s, there will be officer training for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer at Empire State Speech and Hearing Clinic, Camp Badger, on June 3 rd , 2001. Please keep this date free and plan on attending. This training is very important to the officers of our clubs. More on this at a later time.

Our District has endorsed PCC John Rabideau for the position of International Director. He will be on the State Convention Ballot this April. Your support is needed, every vote is important to make his election happen.

Wineglass Running Club 5K Race -- Lion Gene Herber :

The Wineglass Running Club sponsored a 5-kilometer foot race in Big Flats on February 11th. Forty-four runners braved the cold and finished in times ranging from 17:08 to 33:37. The prizes consisted of 38 boxes of chocolate, a bottle of champaign, and one dozen roses distributed to 36 winners in various catagories. A big "Thank you" to Lions Lance Muir, Ed Fairbrother, Merrill Lyn, Don Williams, Al Redner, Sue Brinthaupt, MaryAnn Balland, and King Lion Bill Powell for being course marshalls. Accompanying and assisting some of our course marshalls were members of the Junior Red Cross. They plan to hold a 5K race in Corning as a fundraiser. The registration and awards ceremony were held at the Big Flats American Legion.

The Board has approved our participation in the Community Days 5K Race. The race and barbeque schedules will be combined to allow us to do both.
