Club News:

What a month of June! Our Club began by selling Lions Mints at Sam's Club, and we went on to host 3 Chicken Barbeques including the Twin Tiers Vintage Car Show and the Big Flats Historical Society's Open House. The Community Days BBQ was the largest of the three, boasting 80% membership participation, 600 chicken halves, and 174 donated hours. The weather had its ups and downs that day, but it cleared long enough for the parade. This enabled us to include "Seemore the Lion", which was on loan from the Elmira Lions Club. On this very same day, sixteen Lions assisted in conducting the Big Flats Community Days / Wineglass Running Club 5K Race. Our Club also participated in the Journey for Sight in June. This had been rescheduled from May due to rain.
We closed the month with our annual Awards Meeting and Installation of Officers. The Lion Of The Year award went to newly inducted King Lion Rita Dery. Congratulations King Lion Rita! Officers were installed by PDG John Wertz, and entertainment was provided by four teens from the Youth Talent Showcase with comic monologues. IPP Gary Bernhardt presented a Certificate of Appreciation to 8 year old Sara Lovell for a "Thank you Lions" poster she prepared, depicting Lions activities. King Lion Rita wrapped up the meeting by distributing over 40 invitation letters for prospective members to attend our Summer Picnic. (Prospective) sponsoring Lions will sign and deliver the invitations. Please remember that RSVP's from members and prospects are due by August 6th.

Board Action:

King Lion Gary expressed his thanks to Lion Al Draht and Lion Skip Smith for preparing and entering the float in the Big Flats Community Days Parade on June 15th. Letters of thanks will be sent to the Elmira Lions Club for the use of "Seemore", and to Bob Sawyer for pulling the float in the parade. An application for a hearing aid for an individual has been submitted to Finger Lakes Region Lions Hearing Foundation and approved according to Lion Al Draht.
