Dinner will be Chef's Choice at a cost of $10. Reservations are required by Friday noon preceding the meeting, and the Calling Committee will forward these. Members were requested to endorse the proposal, which was passed with 17 "Yes" votes and 7 "No" votes. NOTE: There was a question on the 25th regarding the location of our December meeting, and it's been determined to be the Hilton Garden Inn.

Club News:
Congratulations to Lion John Hoos on earning his 15-year service pin, which was awarded in November by King Lion Rita Dery! Region Chair Kathy Spear and Lion Ed Spear of Campbell Lions were guests at our first meeting in November, and James Hare gave a wonderful presentation on American Presidents. RC Kathy spoke about the responsibilities of the Region Chairperson and read a poem, "Eyes of the Lions Pin". At our second meeting we were honored with a presentation by Don Keck, inventor of fiber optics.

Our collections for the MD 20 Lions Foundation Mile of Quarters campaign produced $35.25, and ten Lions pitched in for 1/10th shares of a $100 raffle ticket to benefit the NYS & Bermuda Lions Foundation. They were Lions Mary Ann Balland, Gene Herber, Pat Johnston, Neal Gummoe, Skip Smith, John Farr, Merrill Lynn, Stephan Connors, Gary Bernhardt, and Rita Dery. The prize is a 2003 Mustang Convertible or $20K cash.

Lion John Hoos was proud to announce that 18 Lions contributed 67 hours to Scouting for Food, and Lion Pat Johnston reported that the Scouts had collected 3,710 items. On behalf of the Big Flats Community Food Pantry, Lion Pat thanked our Club for its support in counting, sorting, and storing the food, and also for our donation of 33 cases of food valued at $356. Lion Al Draht reports that our Club is actively helping two Big Flats residents obtain eye exams and new glasses. Lions Pat Johnston and Skip Smith referred the individuals to Lion Al, and our Club support is in cooperation with West Elmira Optical. It's reported that the individuals are very appreciative. Finally, King Lion Rita Dery and IPP Lion Gary Bernhardt presented our Club's $200 donation to the Arctic League on Sunday November 30th.
Board Action:
Lion Bim VanEtten suggested that a potential Community Service project could be the repair of gravesite markers in Miller Cemetery. Lion Norval Johnston suggested that Board members read the article, "Present Your Community With A Lions Signature Project" in the November 2002 issue of The Lion. The Board has been generally considering a "large" project in recent months, including possible projects for the Big Flats Town Park. Treasurer Lion Norval Johnston stated that the Club only permitted a free dinner for the District Governor on his official visit and no provisions had been made for the Vice District Governor and spouses on official visitations. On a motion by Lion Merrill Lynn, the Club will now pay for meals of District Governor, Vice District Governor, Vice District Governor and spouses on official visitations.
New Year's Day 5K Race to benefit the Big Flats Food Pantry:
Lion Gene Herber has announced that the Wineglass Running Club will sponsor a 5K race on New Year's Day to benefit the Big Flats Food Pantry. An invitation is extended for all runners to participate, and Lion Gene may contact individual Lions to help as Course Marshals if required. Registration for the general public is $10.00 on race day, prizes will be awarded, and the race begins at the Big Flats American Legion. Please contact Lion Gene for more details.
