Club News:
Carrie Hooper provided the entertainment at our Christmas Dinner this year. As you may recall, she also spoke to our Club in November about the challenges of being blind, as well as her four languages and her eventful year in Sweden. Her performance at our December meeting was no less awe-inspiring, and guest Adrienne Bernhardt (local developer of young talent) commented that Carrie's renditions were among the most heart-felt she'd ever heard. Donna Christoffels accompanied Carrie on the piano. At the same meeting, Lion Bill Powell was presented with the 10 year chevron (congratulations Lion Bill!), Lion Jim Ormiston donated a bag of wine to be raffled for the benefit of the Big Flats Food Pantry, and the needs of the Tail Twister, Lion Lance Muir, were satisfied entirely by Happy Dollars and not fines!

Also in December, King Lion Stephan Connors presented our Club check for $200 at the Artic League event, and under the direction of Lion Neal Gummoe, Lions filled the Bell Ringing slots at Minier's for one day in support of the Big Flats Community Food Pantry. Lion Ray Conklin received some holiday cheer from Lions Al Redner, Don Roe, Gary Bernhardt, and Jim Ormiston, who visited him at the Bath VA Hospital LTC Unit.
Concerns for Members:
Lion Marshall Updike's mother Marie, 88, passed away on January 2nd. She is predeceased by her husband Lynn (Marshall's father) on November 29th, 2003. Also, please be reminded that Lion Ray Conklin has been an inpatient at the Bath VA Nursing Home Care Unit for several months now. Cards and letters may be directed to Ray W. Conklin, c/o NHCU-2, Bath VA Medical Center, 76 Veterans Avenue, Bath, NY 14810.

Update:  Two more Lions have recently visited Lion Ray.  They report that he seemed quite good, all things considered, has lost a great deal of weight, and says he likes it there.
Board Action:
Lion Grace Yanak presented the idea of raising funds for Vitamin A - the members in attendance felt that this was already being done through Lions International. Lion Grace is also working with the Hilton regarding meeting dates and menus for 2004. Lion Donna Barto is looking for helpers for an eye screening at the Montessori School in the near future. Suggestion was presented that we do a session in conjunction with the opening of the Big Flats Community Center. Lion Donna will also contact the Retired Lions regarding a visit to their Club in Jan/Feb. It was clarified that Lion Ray Conklin will be considered a Privileged Member and that the Club will pay his dues for 2003-2004. It was noted that Lion Bim VanEtten continues to do an outstanding job with Public Relations for the Club.
