Welcome Lion Dave Marks!
Please give a warm welcome to Lion Dave Marks next time you see him. You've probably seen him befor at several of our meetings and work parties, but it's official now, and Lion Dave Marks is a member of our Club!
DG Bill Williams visited our Club during Dessert meeting in November. He spoke on a number of topics including PID Doc Meyers and the Fall Conference, and shared some good ideas for recruiting and rebranding. His motto is, "Pursue your passion, 'Just One More'", and this was printed on the cardholders that he handed out to members. He also passed around some examples of Club business cards and offered some tips on how to produce them for the least cost and aggravation (have Staples print them!). Also at this meeting, Lion Don Williams recognized Lion Al Draht for creating the "traveling version" of our Club Banner and stand. King Lion Judy then recognized Lion Al with the first monthly "Done Good Prize" (DGP).
At our dinner meeting we were paid visits by 2nd VDG Dave Rupright and PDG Mike Barata, both from the Apalachin club, along with Lion Rita Dery's son Danny. Lion Connie Lambert announced that the Director at Camp Badger said they would not be renting the trailer during the camping season, rather the cook will be living there. The trailer will be available until June. Lion Connie will be taking drapes to the trailer around Thanksgiving, and will also do some cleaning and shelf papering. Lion Gary Bernhardt announced that Camp Badger's wish list was available online at their website (http://www.lionscb.org/wish_list.html). Lion Mary Ann Balland announced that Lion Sue Brinthaupt was at home recovering from surgery, and a get well card was circulated. Let's keep Lion Sue in our thoughts. Also at this meeting, Lion Gary Bernhardt pitched in a Happy Dollar announcing that he was a 9th time Grandfather!
Upcoming we have our Christmas Party / Dinner meeting at the regular price and time on December 14th, and Lion Bill Powell will be collecting the "Holiday Help for the Hungry" envelopes he distributed earlier. Please make checks payable to Big Flats Lions Club. You can also designate a Food Pantry outside of Big Flats if you wish. King Lion Judy has also asked members to bring one toiletry item for the Bath VA, bearing in mind that some of them are women. Items could include toothpaste, brush, stick deodorant, body wash, etc. Other details may follow by email. Please note that there is a change to our January meeting schedule: Our first meeting (Jan 11) will be a dinner meeting at the Community Center, catered by Miniers / Ann Slowik. The second will be a regular dinner meeting at the Crystal House.
Holiday Help for the Hungry - From Lion Bill Powell:
The tough economy has increased demands on our food pantries. To help, our club is again collecting money at our Christmas meeting. Please give generously. Last year we raised $340; this year I hope we can top $400. The donations will go into the Big Flats Food Pantry's account at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. What would cost a $1.00 in a grocery store can be bought from the Food Bank for 20¢ This is a six fold increase in our gifts. If you would prefer to support another local food pantry, please write that pantry name on an envelope with your gift in it. Your donation will go in that pantry's account at the Food Bank. Both cash and checks are welcome. All checks should be made out to the Big Flats Lions Club. Thank you for your generosity.
Lions Logo Items:
Lion Tom Rhodes has some Lions hats in inventory that are for sale, along with some shirts and sweatshirts donated by the Johnstons that are free for the taking if they fit. Lion Dick Wardell has also put together an order for some Lions-logo reflective vests which are suitable for Adopt-A-Highway or directing traffic. If you would like to be included in this order please contact Secretary Farr sometime in December. Cost is $15.95 each for the reflective vests.
