Club News:
ZC Mike Eisenhart visited us back in November and spoke briefly on membership. He suggested that our younger members should bring in new members, and he was also happy that he did not have to collect dues from our Club! At the same meeting, Connie Scudder from Arnot Health gave us a presentation on Crating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play. Her current project is driven by a grant from New York State to fight obesity and type 2 diabetes. Chemung county is higher than the state and national average in these afflictions, and the project is in year 3 of 5. Its goals are to improve parks and playgrounds, making them safer and more accessible, and to promote community gardens for fruits and vegetables.

Lion Jim and Ann Ormiston provided a "Taste of the Finger Lakes" wine tasting at our second meeting. Jim also spoke to us about the history of the wine industry in the Finger Lakes region and shared his considerable expertise on the many facets of wine. Jim and Ann represent the Standing Stone winery, but their tasting included wines from many different wineries across the region.

Congratulations are due for Lion Merrill Lynn, who was recently awarded his 40 year chevron!

Lion Dave Marks reported that 140 meals spaghetti and meatballs at the St. Peter and Paul's Community Kitchen in Elmira. Next will be 2nd Friday in January. Bob Byland reported that 3,384 items collected at the Scouting for Food event, of which 2,614 went to the Big Flats Food Pantry and the rest went to Maranatha. We will try for another food drive in May or June. Lions Al Draht & Don Williams finished one ramp in the rain and at report time they were planning to do an indoor/garage ramp. Then they'll quit for the year. Lion Bob Byland also commented on the ramp project, noting that the last one brought "tears and smiles". All in all, our team has built 5 ramps in the last 4 months.

Lions Sue Brinthaupt and Mary Ann Balland reported that 14 Lions worked 39 hours for the Turkey Raffle. Sales were down from last year. Lion Gary Bernhardt reported that he and Lion Donna Barto worked at the Blood Drive in November, and that the two of them along with Lion Marshall Updike also gave blood. Our Christmas party will be held on Monday the 12th at the Crystal House, and it will include entertainment!
